Naomi Osaka and Patrick Mahomes to Invest in Major Pickleball League Expansion Teams

Naomi Osaka joins a host of Sports Stars to invest in Pickleball pro expansion teams. Stars like Lebron James, Tom Brady, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Kevin Love, and other stars were among the first to invest in Pickleball. But Naomi Osaka is joining them as she has no plans on being left behind and will soon join the list of investors before her.


Although there’s no official announcement to this effect according to Forbes, the deal will be announced soon. Other details like the takeover cost and investment size are also still unknown.


The ownership deal is expected to contain investors like Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios, NBA super-agent Rich Paul, Billionaire Soichiro Minami, and Matthew Pritzker are all expected members of the investment group.


It’s no longer news that Pickleball is America’s fastest-growing sport in the last two years which has captured the attention of a lot of people. Major League Pickleball, had announced an expansion to include more teams in the league in the coming year in 2023. Ever since the announcement, Sports superstars along with other investors have been drawn to grab an opportunity to invest in the pickleball franchise.


Osaka is not new to investing in Sports as she invested in the National Women’s Soccer League’s North Carolina Courage in 2021. The tennis star also launched her skin-care line Kinlò, in 2021 and her production company Hana Kuma in June and left IMG to start her own talent agency, Evolve, with longtime agent Stuart Duguid in May.


Osaka is one of the highest-paid athletes and highest-paid female athletes in the world earning $59.2 million before tax with another $58 million coming off the court. Her partner Mahomes, also makes an estimated $22 million off the field annually.


Pickleball which is a combination of Tennis and Badminton was founded in 1965 by one of the game’s first players. The game also accommodates players both young and old maybe, that’s why it is loved by many. According to reports, the game already had over 4.8 million pickleball players in 2021.


Major League Pickleball (MLP), which was founded by Steve Kuhn had announced plans to double the tournament’s winning prize along with its expansion. The winner would claim $2 million in prize money which could rise up to $5 million according to an Axios report.


Axios also reported that the league’s draft would air Thursday on the Tennis Channel after the finals of its three 2022 tournaments were shown on CBS Sports Network.
